Summary

An extensive field system on the southern shores of Rostherne Mere. It covers c.10 hectares and comprises a regular pattern of parallel narrow ridges arranged at ninety degrees to a series of curving ditches and banks. The ridges may have been created by steam ploughing, but it’s probable, that in this instance, they form part of an extensive water meadow which predate the present arrangement of field boundaries depicted on the 1848 tithe map.
