Full Description
<1> Higham N J, 1984-9, Professor Nick Higham's Aerial Photographs, J87/1/14, 15, 17, 20 & 21 (Aerial Photograph). SCH7659.
Aerial photographs showing cropmarks and earthworks indicative of a semi-regular pattern of field boundaries. Includes a possible trackway and features indicative of narrow ridge and furrow or steam ploughing.
<2> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards, EDT 343/2 (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.
The easternmost feature, which survives as an earthwork adjacent to Briddon Weir Farm, is the only cropmark or earthwork which correlates with a field boundary depicted on this map.
<3> Ordnance Survey, 1871-1882, Ordnance Survey County Series (Epoch 1) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ7584 1876-1877 (Maps and Plans). SCH2462.
A line of trees follow the course of the possible trackway visible as a cropmark in (1). A similar tree line follows the northern part of the easternmost earthwork and two trees are located on the southernmost earthwork.
<4> Various, Various, Oral communication to the HER, Edwards R 17/06/2014 (Oral Communication). SCH2330.
Very similar in some respects to CHER 2173 to the immediate south. It’s probable that, at least in part, this forms part of the same system of water meadows. Notably the two field systems are divided by Blackburn’s Brook. Also the deeply incised easternmost earthwork is markedly similar to a watercourse. Furthermore this may in part explain the name of the nearby farm, Briddon Weir Farm, which may be named for part of the systems water management structures.
