Summary

Grade II listed house built for Samuel Greg (owner of Quarry Bank Mill) in 1797. The walls are washed rough cast brick on a stone plinth. It has a hipped Welsh slate roof and 4 brick chimneys. The house is two storeys wityh a three bay east front.A central porch on fluted columns has a tented glass roof.

Full Description

Built for Samuel Greg in 1797. Washed rough cast brick on stone plinth. Hipped Welsh slate roof and 4 brick chimneys. 2-storey, 3 bay east front. Moulded wooden cornice. Central detached porch on fluted columns has a tented glass roof. West front in 2-storey over basement and has central 2- storey curving bay window. Interior opens into rectangular hall with curving corners and 4 5-panelled mahogany doors (2 curved). Room to left has fireplace with shouldered architrave with blue tiles and a stained glass panel of Greg arms. Room to right has classical fireplace of white and grey marble with urns and central plaque of nymph, reclining on cornucopia, spinning and later graffito of sailing ship. Staircase has plain balusters, mahogany handrial and bracketted open string (1).
