This mill was described in 1806 as a very old paper mill. It is probably the site of a fulling mill. It was converted to cotton in 1801, along with the building of a weir, dated "1801 LPW/WW" (Lawrence Plant Wagstaffe/William Watts).
<3> Calladine A & Fricker J, 1993, East Cheshire Textile Mills, p.41,51,107 (Book). SCH1093.
Used water frames for spinning until 1822, when it was taken over by Martin Swindells. James Leigh took possession of the mill in 1841, shortly before it burnt down, in 1856.
<4> Ashmore, O, 1982, The Industrial Archaeology of North West England, p.57 (Book). SCH3181.
The mill was rebuilt, then converted to silk spinning. When the mill burnt down again, in 1908, the insurers refused to pay, because they had not been informed of the change of use as mentioned in source 2.
