Summary

It is two storeyed to the front and four storeyed to the rear. The mill was possibly originally built as cottages with weaving garret probably occupying the whole of the upper storey. Garret houses were three storey houses where the upper storey was specially built as a weaving workshop. It ran the width of the house and had large windows. These houses were usually built as terraces. Much of the weaving of silk was carried out by outworkers who operated handlooms in such properties.
