Summary

Cotton mill built in the 1780s. It was a brick built single storeyed mill with a basement and warehouse on the south west side. It was originally powered by a waterwheel and a steam engine powered. In 1903 the spinning was powered by an 1800 h.p. inverted vertical steam engine. The building was extended eastwards when it was taken over by the Globe Cotton Spinning and Manufacturing Co. The mill was then know as the Globe Mill, and specialised in calico weaving, until 1933. It has most recently been used as a printing works.

1780s cotton mill. Brick built, single storeyed, with basement warehouse on SW side. Originally powered by 7 h.p. wheel and 60 h.p. steam engine (by 1843), replaced in 1903 by 750 h.p. triple expansion horizontal engine. After 1903, the spinning was powered by 1800 h.p. inverted vertical steam engine, with power transmitted by rope race. taken over in 1867 by the Globe Cotton Spinning and Manufacturing Co., who extended it by building East Cheshire's biggest single storeyed north-light weaving shed. The mill then became known as Globe Mill, and specialised in calico weaving, until 1933. Now used as a printing works
