Summary

Archaeological investigations for a new extension to Brown’s Department store, St Michael’s Row (now Debenhams) in 1926 identified a large quantity of medieval pottery from a pit feature in shaft No 18. The pottery recovered included many examples of green glazed pitchers with ‘slashed’ decoration on the handles and sides. The pottery appears to be broadly 14th century in date.

Archaeological investigations for a new extension to Brown’s Department store, St Michael’s Row (now Debenhams) in 1926 identified a large quantity of medieval pottery from a pit feature in shaft No 18. The pottery recovered included many examples of green glazed pitchers with ‘slashed’ decoration on the handles and sides. The pottery appears to be broadly 14th century in date. (1)
