Full Description
Several medieval pits were encountered during archaeological investigations to the rear of Watergate Street at the southern end of Goss Street in 1971. The work was carried out following the demolition of S Aston & Son Ltd and monitored by T Ward of the Grosvenor Museum.
Two trenches were excavated both of which revealed medieval pits cutting the earlier Roman evidence. The pits appeared to be of a late 13th-14th century date containing a small amount of pottery and a fine bone comb fine bone comb decorated with incised ring and dot decoration. (1).
