Summary

Grade II listed gates and gate piers to the Wilderness garden at north end of the lime avenue of Adlington Hall. The wrought iron gates are dated 1688. The gates were erected, and lime avenue planted in celebration of the arrival of William of Orange by a colonel of his militia. The park is Grade II* listed on the register of Parks and Gardens.

Full Description

Gates & gate piers to Wilderness garden at N end of lime avenue of Adlington Hall. Dated 1688 for Thomas Legh V. Ashlar buff gritstone. Between piers are a pair of wrought iron gates. Left hand gate has inscription IW 1688. Gates erected, and lime avenue planted in celebration of the arrival of William of Orange by a colonel of his militia (1).
