Summary

A grade II listed former farmhouse dating from the eighteenth century and associated with former outbuilding dating from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Two gate piers, also grade II listed and dating from the eighteen the century, are located to the north of the house. Now the Yew Tree Holistic Centre.

Full Description

House (formerly Farmhouse). Late seventeenth century. Flemish bond brick, slate roof. Two storeys with attic. North front: Vitrified headers, three bays. Doorway slightly to right of centre with flat (replacement) lintel. Cambered relieving arch above of headers with wooden panel to tympanum. Ground floor windows to either side of five lights with chamfered stone surrounds and mullions. Three panes to each light. Double cambered relieving arches above joining over the middle light. Similar to first floor. String course between floors of two rows of stretchers supported on alternately projecting headers. Further string course above first floor of three rows of overlapping stretchers. Eighteenth century outhouse to right and nineteenth century outhouse to left. South front: double gabled. String course above ground floor as to north front. String course above first floor of two rows of stretchers sandwiching a row of canted headers. Nineteenth century door and porch to right of centre. Ground floor left hand window of three lights (originally four) with chamfered stone mullions and lintel of headers extending to left indicating placing of original fourth light. Two similar windows to first floor, the left hand one also originally of four lights indicated by joint in brickwork (the extended lintel is not here present). Two-light chamfered window to attic with lintel of brick headers. Similar window under same gable originally to right and slightly lower, now reduced to one two-pane light and given new wooden surround. Twentieth century, two-light window and french windows to ground floor right replacing a three-light window with chamfered stone surround and mullions. East side: four-light window with chamfered stone surround and mullions and double relieving arch to ground floor left. Other windows and doors are nineteenth century replacements. Good contemporary staircase.

This map depicts the house and two further buildings to the west arranged in an L shape.

Pair of gate piers. Eighteenth century plum brick with stone dressings. Square brick piers with stone caps of cyma outline supporting stone balls.
