The pillar of a Saxon cross. Barrel-shaped with a bead mould at the top. Reused as a sundial, probably in the early 18th century and moved in front of the Shell Cottage, Adlington Hall, in the mid 18th century

Adlington 1. Almost certainly the lower half of a round shaft cross. Cylindrical shaft is undecorated and topped by a single encircling moulding. The upper section of the monument has been cut away. Characteristic of the Cheshire group of round-shafts, (which have a marked concentration in Prestbury parish) in not being associated with an ecclesastical site. Full discussion in (3)
