An environmental statement was produced in 2016 for the proposed route of the Poynton Relief Road. Walkover survey undertaken as part of the brief identified a potential moat at Lostockhall Farmhouse. It comprises a broad, shallow ditch approximately 4m wide and 1m deep, forming a partial circuit around the farmhouse. The ground surface inside the ditch appears to be higher than outside which is a common feature of such sites which were formed by up-cast material deposited during construction, and periodic cleaning or dredging. Although the current farmhouse is believed to date from the 16th century, it is possible that it had a medieval predecessor.
