Summary

Grade II listed farmhouse, now a house. It has 16th century origins with 17th century fabric and early 20th century alterations. It has an L - shaped plan and is built of sandstone with a stone-slate roof and two brick chimneys. Partial demolition of rear in 1974 revealed at least one cruck framing in the walls, suggesting it was originally a timber framed building. A Cruck is a beam used in timber framing. Two curved timbers that are cut from the same tree, used to support a roof, from floor to apex.

Full Description

No.87 Wellington Road (Bollington Hall Farmhouse). Formerly farmhouse, now house. C16 origins, C17 fabric and early C20 alterations. Coursed, squared buff sandstone rubble, stone-slate roof, stone ridge and two brick chimneys. L-shaped in plan. Two-storey, three-bay front. End bays have C20 wooden casements under rough stone lintels with partial remains of hood moulds above. Right gable end has a protruding stepped stone chimney, flanked by chamfered mullions with hood moulds: partial demolition of rear in 1974 revealed at least one cruck framing in the walls (1).
