Summary

The Royal Bakehouse was situated next to the Guildhall and owned by the manor. This was the centralised bakehouse for the town, to reduce the risk of fire and to provide a steady income for the manor. It could be leased to a burgess for cash. Records show that in 1352, Adam De Mottrum paid 30 shillings a year.
