Full Description
The Guildhall, Macclesfield. The original C13 structure may have been in timber. An illustration ofthe C16 Guildhall by Lynch shows it above an arcade of three shops (1). A description in 1817 records that the front of the building was in the western gable end, approached by a flight of stone steps, and commanded a full view of the market place. Over the entrance were the arms of the corporation (2). The Guildhall was replaced by the present Town Hall in 1823 (3).
