Summary
Part of a saddle quern found by the side of a road near Rainow. These are the simplest form of querns. Grain was ground by dragging a heavy stone backward and forward over a stone base with a curved upper surface.

Part of a saddle quern measuring 19.75 x 14 inches. Found by the side of a road near Rainow. Given to the British Museum (1).
