Summary

A grade II listed former farmhouse, now a house. The stone chimney stack stack bears the inscription: "EDWARDE GREENE ESQR DENARYE YEOMAN OF QUEEN ELIZABETHES CHAMBER BUYLDED THIS HOWS OF HIS OWN PROPER COST ANNO DOMI MDLXXXI ET ANNO DNI 1582 WINN" commemorating its construction in 1581.

Full Description

Formerly farmhouse, now a house: dated 1581 with later nineteenth and twentieth century alterations. Washed brick on sandstone plinth. Welsh slate roof, one brick ridge chimney and one massive external stone gable chimney, with a moulding below a later brick stack. Originally a rectangular H-plan house. The stone stack bears the inscription: "EDWARDE GREENE ESQR DENARYE YEOMAN OF QUEEN ELIZABETHES CHAMBER BUYLDED THIS HOWS OF HIS OWN PROPER COST ANNO DOMI MDLXXXI ET ANNO DNI 1582 WINN". This gable has a single light, cut through a stone block with moulded panels in the soffits, to light fire area. Remainder of the front of the house remodelled late nineteenth and twentieth century with three-light casements with glazing bars and a timber framed gable with projecting bay windows below.

Interior: Timber framed partition walls and chamfered ceiling beams with flat stops. Parlour has massive stone fireplace with heavy chamfered stone lintel. Remainder of interior much altered.
