Full Description
Crosstowne & Over Knutsford is the E nucleus of present day Knutsford. Cross Town, 'the village at the cross', was named from an ancient stone cross which formerly stood there, perhaps the market cross of the old town (1). The Parish church was originally located in this part of the town (RN: 1240/ 1) until it was demolished when the new church of St John was built in the western part of the town in 1744 (2).
