Summary

Early 17th century Grade II listed cottage with alterations and additions. It is red sandstone and part brick (now all whitened), built on natural rock. The roof was formerly thatched, but now has old slates. Building work has revealed possible wall foundations to the nort-west of house; probably the remains of structures visible on 1st edition O.S. maps, and that t the cottage was built directly onto the sandstone bedrock. This also revealed evidence of on-site quarrying of sandstone for the construction of the original building. One sherd of unstratified pot, probably part of a dish and dating from the 17th or C18th century was found.
