<3> Thompson, P, 1983, Ince Manor: Medieval Monastic Buildings on the Mersey Marshes, p.1 & 18 (Monograph). SCH1474.
Ince mills on the edge of the marshes were controlled by the Abbey from at least the 13th century. There were perennial disputes over the maintenance of the sluices on the marsh which arose again in the mid 14th century. As part of the contract between the monks of Ince and their neighbours, whether the Cistercians at Stanlow or the prince's manor at Frodsham, the monks were bound to repair bridges and rights of way giving access to Ince mills, and the sluices on the sea wall.
