Monument record 129 - Linear Earthwork at Preston on the Hill

Please read our .

Summary

A linear earthwork aligned east-north-east to south-west-south and curving ninety degrees at its eastern end towards Summer Lane visible on aerial photographs. This feature has been interpreted as two sides to a possible enclosure associated with a late Saxon ecclesiastical settlement at Preston Hill. However, this earthwork also corresponds with a field boundary depicted on historic maps.
