Full Description
Charity or Blue Cap School. First mentioned in pamphlet in 1712. Located in the upper storey of a house in Pepper Street, which was rented by the Churchwardens for a school. School was for 40 boys who wore blue caps. A further school was set up for 30 girls, but there is little information on this school. No permanent endowments, so school relied on donations. List of Masters from c.1711 to 1860. The house in Pepper Street was pulled down at Christmas 1877 and on the site a 'commodious residence' was erected by Mr Jackson, a Draper (1).
