Summary

Grade II listed three storey town house dated 1584. It is timber framed with plaster infilling. There is an overhanging Jetty at each floor carried on carved brackets with human faces, etc. It is known as the Queen's Aid House because of its inscription reading 'God grant our Royal Queen in England long to reign, for she hath put her helping hand to build this town again. Thomas Cleese made this worke. The year of Oure Lorde God 1584' . The fire that swept through Nantwich in December 1583 destroyed most of buildings to the east of the River. It is of particular interest because the programme of rebuilding, part funded by Queen Elizabeth I, is very well documented.
