Summary

Grade II listed seventeenth century house. It is timber framed with whitewashed brick infill and brick and a tile roof. Wood was in plentiful supply as a building material in Britain until the seventeenth century. It was therefore the most practical material for house building. Timber framed buildings consist of a wooden framework (usually oak) that was infilled to created solid walls. Infill material used included wattle and daub, lath and plaster, brick and weather board. Brick nogging, (decorative brick infill) was often used in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries replace earlier wattle and daub or lath and plaster infill as it was longer lasting.

House. Seventeenth century. Timber framed with whitewashed brick infill and brick with a plain tile roof, originally thatched. Single storey with attic. Baffle entry plan. Entrance front: six by two cells of small framing on a projecting plinth with a doorway at right and a two-light window to the left. To the right of this is renewed twentieth century brick walling painted in simulation of timber framing with a two-light casement window and to the right of this is a twentieth century addition with a two-light cambered-headed window at left and a lean-to to the right. Three and two-light gabled dormer windows at left and right respectively. To the left is a nineteenth century cart shed with a stable door at left and two single-light twentieth century windows at right. The first floor above this has a two-light gabled half-dormer window. Two ridge chimneys at left and right. Interior: chamfered ceiling beams to one ground floor room with end stops and an ovolo moulded wall plate which appears internally. Two ingle-nook fireplaces with chamfered bressumers.
