Full Description
Information derives from a school project written in 1986 entitled 'The Dark Valley; an investigation of the history of one of the richest archaeological sites in Britain'. Author suggests there is a group of 12 barrows clustered around Toad Hall, with 4 outliers to the east, one of which was excavated by Keele University in 1987-8 (see 2639/1/ 1). Mention is made of 2 excavated postholes which he interprets as parts of hut circles but no further information is given for the sites. He also suggests there was a henge around the site of the Hall but no evidence is presented for this (1).
