Salt works established in 1693 on the Hind Heath estate in Sandbach township. Locations marked by "Brine Pit Field" and two "Wich House Fields". There are adjacent "Wich Fields" over the river in Wheelock township. The canal passes over the probable sites of these salt works (SJ739594 & SJ744593). More documentation is likely to be found in the Ford of Abbeyfield papers at the County Record Office.
