Full Description

During extension to the beer cellar from August to September 1940 at the Ring O'Bells Hotel, first and second century pottery, including Samian ware (some stamped), mortaria and coarse wares, roof tiles and portions of three glass vessels, were recovered, as well as one sherd of third to fourth century mortarium (1).

The hotel is marked on the OS 1:500 Town Plan of Chester (1850) at the eastern end of Foregate Street and was demolished to make way for the Inner City Ring road (see http://www.chesterwalls.info/ringobells.html).
