Full Description
A small quantity of Roman pottery including samian and imitation samian ware was recorded during alterations to Stanley Palace on Lower Watergate Street in 1940. Among the assemblage, two vessels of particular importance could be identified including a small samian ditch with strongly curved sides that appears to be a variant of the Dragendorff type 22 and dated to the late Flavian period. A second item was the base of a cup in imitation samian ware and is stamped with the initials LV similar to those found at Deanery Field in 1924 (1).
