Full Description

A number of Roman coins have been recovered from the Nun's Field area in the 19th century, all are imprecisely located.

The earliest find dates to around 1803 when a coin of Nero was said to have been found in a field near Smith's Walk (later Grey Friars) near Colonel Wrench's house (Greyfriars House site). It is supposed the field in question is Nun's Field, then owned by Colonel Wrench (4) (5)

In 1831 a well preserved gold coin of Faustina the Elder, wife of Antoninus Pius was discovered in Nun's Field (1)

Finally in 1836 a Trajanic coin with the inscription TR POT COS II on the reverse is said to have been recovered from the Nun's Field, it was donated to the Grovesnor Museum in 1957 (2)
