Full Description
A ramped foundation for St Mary's Lane, consisting of a one metre thick deposit of Roman building debris (CHER 8254), was revealed in contractor's trenches. The building debris, which sealed irregularities in the rock surface caused by quarrying in the Roman period, was probably imported to St Mary's Lane in late eleventh or twelfth centuries. Please note that the source material for this monument record is now lost, and there is no other information available on this find (1).
