Three medieval pits were recorded at Watergate House in 1959, including one that had been cut into the bed of a filled up stream and containing late thirteenth to fourteenth century pottery, including fragments of a French imported jug.

Full Description

Grosvenor Museum carried out an emergency excavation on the site of Watergate House and watched building operations in 1959. Three medieval pits were recorded, including one that had been cut into the bed of a filled up stream (CHER 8074) and containing late thirteenth to fourteenth century pottery, including fragments of a French imported jug (1). Note that this location is thought to have been just outside and to the north of the Dominican Friary precinct (CHER 10317/1).
