Full Description
About 1927 (or two years before a similar discovery in the same area was made), at a distance of c 11.2m east of Eaton Road, a wall footing of rubble embedded into natural grey silt was found while cutting a trench in search of burials (1). The silt contained part of the rim of a mortarium dated to the early second century. The location of this find was c 50m north of the foundation recorded in 1929 (CHER 8387), which suggests that it may have been part of a funerary structure (1). Note that details on the construction of the foundation are reported.
