Full Description
Found during the course of construction work under the pavement in front of Parry’s Coach Factory, later Richardson’s China Shop on the north side of Foregate St. (possibly at 79 Foregate St.) in 1900, was a worn cobble pavement, laid in a geometrical pattern in various colours, 1.8 - 4.6m out from the building line (1).
The pavement was approximately 1.3m below the ground surface, and pottery fragments, including Samian ware, were found in association (1). The 1:500 First Edition map of 1875 identifies 79 Foregate St. as a ‘Coach Manufactory’ (2).
