Building record 179/0/64 - Former Registration Office and School off Hospital Street, Nantwich

At rear of No 144. Circa 1820. Red brick; two storeys; three sash windows with flat brick arches; sill band; stone parapet with raised centre panel inscribed "Nuthurst School"; plain stone doorcase with pediment. Nos 122 to 126 (even), Nos 130 to 144 (even), Nuthurst School, Nos 146 and 148 and Churche's Mansion form a group.

Labelled Registration Office. A small gated yard enclosed by outbuildings lies directly to the south.

The raised centre panel in the parapet is inscribed “REGISTER OFFICE”. The extension on the southern side of the building, which replaced the yard and outbuildings, is probably mid twentieth century. The school was reputedly founded in 1881 and was still here in the early 1970s. See also CHER 179/0/66.
