<1> Fenix Heritage, 2024, Windmill House, Carden Lane, Carden, Cheshire, SY14 7HP: Level II Historic Building Record, R4802 (Client Report). SCH9675.
A level II historic building survey was undertaken in 2024 for Windmill House, located on Carden Park Golf course, prior to demolition and construction of a replacement dwelling. A group of four buildings are depicted on the site on the Tithe Map of 1839; the plot (Plot 134) is described as 'House, Buildings, Fold etc.', owned by John Hurleston Leche and occupied by Mary Ann Boote. The property is labelled 'Windmill House' on the OS map of 1875.
Brick built and originally three bays with a substantial, south-facing, curving, two-storey bay incorporating the ground floor entrance hall and first floor landing. The curving bay has a partly conical roof which is Italianate style, a feature of the Regency period. It potentially originated as a double pile house of probable 18th or early 19th-century in date, the core of which is masked by the modern northern extensions and the modern rebuilding of the south elevation.
