Monument record 15831 - Excavated ditches/hollow way, to the north of Toad Hole Farm House

Two parallel ditches (1007 and 1008) were recorded in archaeological trenches in 2022 at a site to to the north of Toad Hole Farm House. The ditches were located in the eastern extent of trench 10 and measure circa 1.8 x 4 x 0.65m (1007) and circa 2 x 3.8 x 0.58m (1008). They appear to align with a path or hollow-way depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1882 (source 2) and both also align with an area of increased response in the geophysical survey (source 3). Both ditches had been cut by later land drains. Black-glazed ware pottery of 17th to 18th century date was recovered from the fills of 1008 and some late 18th to 19th century refined whiteware was found within 1007.
