Summary

The site of a post medieval farmstead depicted on nineteenth century maps. The farmstead probably dates from the seventeenth or eighteenth century, and was demolished sometime between 1945 and 1971.

Full Description

<1> See map for surveyor, c.1837-51, Cheshire Tithe Maps and Awards, EDT 405/2, 1838 (Maps and Plans). SCH3266.

This map depicts two rectangular buildings and a smaller square building to the east. The southern-most building, aligned north-south along its longest axis. The second building lies to the north and is aligned east-west, forming an L-shaped arrangement of buildings. The plot is named House, Buildings, Fold, and Garden. It is occupied by John Large.

A building of a similar size and alignment, though slightly offset to the west, has been added to the southern-most building. Orchards are depicted to the south and west. A second rectangular building has been constructed to the west of the northern building. Although on a similar alignment, the buildings are not connected.

The northern buildings are no longer depicted. The building to the west of the southern building is clearly a pigsty. Labelled Yewtree Farm.

The farmstead is still extant, though not clearly visible.
