<1> Ordnance Survey, 1909-1912, Ordnance Survey Second Revision County Series (Epoch 3) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ8760, 1909 (Maps and Plans). SCH4361.

This map depicts the works and the associated workings to the north-west of Congleton Edge Road. At the northern end of the site is a large building, with smaller buildings to the north, this is labelled Copper Hill Works (Silica Brick and Ganister). Circa 225 metres to the south-west are the quarry workings, comprise a number of levels connected by tramways and a possible incline. There is the suggestion of a possible adit entrance, suggesting that some material may have been being mined. The quarry and the buildings are connected by a tramway.

<2> Ordnance Survey, 1896-1898, Ordnance Survey First Revision County Series (Epoch 2) 25 inch to 1 mile - Cheshire, SJ8760, 1898-1899 (Maps and Plans). SCH3848.

Not depicted on this map. At the location of the later quarry is a small quarry labelled Old Quarry.

The depth of shadow on this photograph makes it difficult to ascertain if the works and quarry are still extant or in operation.

The site has been reclaimed and no obvious evidence of either the works or the quarry can be seen.

<5> Derbyshire Caving Club, Various, Derbyshire Caving Club, Mining in Cheshire (Web Site). SCH9389.

Ganister, a fine-grained quartzose sandstone used in the manufacture of silica bricks (commonly used to line furnaces), was mined at Astbury and at the north end of the ridge that forms Mow Cop.
