A single feature was encountered cutting into the Period 4 (Saxon)soil layer. The alignment of this feature was noticeably contrary to the general north–south trend of the current and, indeed, historic boundaries and building lines that characterise this area of Chester.

Feature consisted of a linear cut, probably a gully, aligned northeast–southwest and stretching across the entire width of the lift pit excavation area. The feature measured c. 0.50m wide and c. 0.30m deep, with steep sides and a flat base. Its single fill, which generally demarcated the passage of the feature, comprised a dark brown, charcoal-flecked clay-sand containing the occasional small fragment of sandstone and slate.
