Full Description
<1> Earthworks Archaeological Services, 2015, Interim Summary report on Block 3. A phased programmed of archaeological works at Roman Gate Development, Bollands Court, Chester (Client Report). SCH7822.
The medieval period was represented within the confines of the lift pit excavation by a single deeply cut
pit and a subsequent soil layer. These produced sherds of pottery dating to the 13th – 14th centuries,
together with a short cross penny of Henry III (minted AD 1216–47), during which period the site lay
within the quadrilateral precinct of the Carmelite Friary formed by White Friars Lane to the south, Weaver Street to the west, Commonhall Street to the North and Bridge Street to the east
