Conservation Statement produced for 'Fiddler's Elbow' (see CHER 15760). Fiddler’s Elbow and the adjoining property known as Cherry Tree are situated close to the main gateway to Mottram Hall. They are likely to have originally formed part of the Mottram Hall Estate. Mottram Hall was built by William Wright, who bought the Mottram Estate in 1738. The Hall was intended for his son Randal, and must pre-date 1853, in which year Randal died aged 21. Cherry Tree has a carved stone inset in the front gable with the date 1742 and the initials JSB. Fiddler’s Elbow (now demolished) had similarities to Cherry Tree, and also probably dated from the mid 18th century.
