A level I photographic survey was undertaken in 2021 of the barns/piggery to the south-east of Hammerton Farmhouse in advance of conversion.
The farmhouse is believed to date from the early 18th century and the farm is shown on Burdett’s map of 1777, although this is of too small a scale to show any detail. The first map to show any degree of detail is the 1842 tithe map, which marks the farmhouse in pink in plot 309; other farm buildings are coloured grey and include the two barns to the south on an L-plan, a long rectangular building to the west and an out building to the north along a boundary. This latter building may have served in the southern part as a pigsty as the structure continues beyond a line which is likely to have been a wall. The function of the northern part is not clear. The tithe apportionment records that the farm was owned by George Smith Daintry, Michael Daintry and Thomas Ryle Daintry and occupied by John Pownall. Pownall is listed in the 1851 census return as a farmer of 120 acres employing one labourer.
