Summary

The earliest documentary reference to this place-name dates from the early seventeenth century and late eighteenth century, early nineteenth century maps depict a small settlement called Warford Green. Mid to late nineteenth century maps depict the farmstead comprising a farmhouse with farm buildings arranged round three sides of a yard located to the immediate north. The farmstead was demolished in the mid 1980s.

Wharford Farm, also known as Watford and Walford. The earliest documentary reference to this place-name dates from 1636.

This map depicts a group of buildings at this location. It is labelled Warford Green.

This map depicts a house with three buildings to the north. These buildings are orientated around a sub-rectangular yard. It is described as ‘house, outbuildings, yard, garden, orchard, and part of green’.

This map depicts a house with outbuildings to the north which enclose three sides of a rectangular yard.

An possible open sided Dutch barn has been constructed to the north of the farm buildings.

The farm house with the yard enclosed by farm buildings is clearly visible. The Dutch barn, first observed on source (6) is also visible.

The farmstead is still extant.

The farm building on the eastern side of the yard has been demolished. Possibly quite recently.

The farm buildings on the northern and western sides of the yard have lost their roofs. It’s possible that these buildings are in the process of being demolished as the surrounding land is landscaped.

Aerial imagery published on Google Maps clearly shows that the floor slabs of the buildings were left insitu.
