<1> Gifford and Partners, 2005, Crewe Hall Farm, Cheshire; Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment, p.19-21 (Client Report). SCH4681.
‘…The arrangement of farm buildings within the Crewe Hall Farm complex (see 2) is much different to the present day layout of buildings. Visible and discernible are the early nineteenth century farmhouse, along with the earlier eastern dwelling and three other building, probably cattle stalls, stables and/or barns/storage buildings. The farm complex appears not to be uniform in plan and is typical of staggered development…’
‘…The farmhouse and buildings on this map probably date to the eighteenth or early nineteenth centuries and are located in different locations to those found on the 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey of 1898. The buildings still enclose a rectangular courtyard. However, a large barn-type building occupies the western .extent of the courtyard. Other buildings that lie within the footprints of buildings presently standing are also on this map. The sub-surface remains of these demolished buildings constitute an archaeological resource. Within the eastern section of the farm complex is a large pond. A smaller pond also exists within the centre of the courtyard….’
