Archaeological monitoring and excavation works were carried out between February 2013 and July 2014 at the site of Grosvenor park, Chester. These works were undertaken as part of a phase of refurbishment, renovation and extension works, which included the refurbishment of the park pathways, demolition of standing structures, the erection of a new pavilion and extension and refurbishment of the Lodge building. At the main entrance to the park, off Vicar's Lane, a section of sandstone wall was encountered along a north-east/south-west alignment, and is likely to represent part of the boundary wall for the St John's Church precinct. The precinct wall is depicted on maps from at least 1581; Lavaux's map of 1745 is the first accurate map showing the wall.
