Summary

A rectangular pond which may have originated in the medieval period as a fishpond for the nearby hall (see 950/1). The pond was later re-used as a mill pond which supplied water via a leat to its north to the nearby watermill (see CHER 950/2).

Full Description

This map depicts a sub-rectangular pond to the south of Cattenhall Farm and a straight channel, labelled mill race, running between it and the eastern side of the watermill (see CHER 950/2).

This map depicts the pond and a possible watercourse following the line of the mill race depicted on later maps (see 1).

The size and shape of the pond, and its location adjacent to the medieval hall, suggests that this may have been a medieval fish pond re-used for the mill.
