Full Description

In 1931, non-archaeological excavations at the site of the Marks & Spencer's (20 - 26 Foregate Street) yielded 'a fair amount' of late first to late second century pottery. Excavations extended along a narrow strip on the east side of the building. In 1937, further excavations by contractors extended south for a distance of c48.8m from the street frontage. On that occasion, the reported finds also consisted of Samian ware and coarse ware pottery (1).
