Summary

A small mid-nineteenth century landscape park surrounding Hinderton Hall. Earthworks in the pasture areas of the parkland correspond to former drives or former field boundaries from the pre-parkland landscape.

Full Description

Hinderton Hall and its estate were originally built for Christopher Bushell, a successful wine merchant and local politician, in 1856 on a site believed to have been the venue for the Great Neston Horse Races held in the early 1760s. From 1907 the estate was owned by Sir Percy Bates, who later became chairman of the Cunard shipping line.

Depicts an L-shaped parkland predominanley to the west and south of the hall.

Linear earthworks are clearly visible in the pasture areas of the parkland (see 3). Some correspond to former field boundaries from the pre-parkland landscape (see 4) others to former drives located within the park (see 5).
