Full Description
<1> Earthworks Archaeological Services, 2018, 67-69 Bridge Street Row, Chester, Cheshire: An Archaeological Evaluation (Client Report). SCH8415.
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken during February 2018 ahead of the proposed demolition and replacement of an extension to the rear of nos. 67–69 Bridge Street Row, Chester. The site is located within the Roman legionary fortress and the remains of the legionary baths complex lie close by. A single trial trench was excavated within the footprint of the proposed extension. The results of the evaluation demonstrated that a cobblestone surface – probably the remains of the Roman intervallum road, or via sagularis – lie beneath deep soil deposits and later structural features.
