<1> Earthworks Archaeological Services, 1996, An Archaeological Evaluation at Congleton Town Hall, Cheshire (Client Report). SCH4063.
Trial trenches excavated in 1996 adjacent to Congleton Town Hall identified post holes which have been interpreted as the remains of timber structures, dated to the 18th-19th century by artefactual evidence. In one of the trenches two square clay-packed features were also recorded and may represent post pads for a timber structure. No dating evidence was recovered with the post pads but they post date medieval deposits and pre-date the 19th century.
